The Three Pagodas of Chongseng Temple, Dali, China
| In Dali, in the south of China, is the Temple of the Three Pagodas. The main pagoda in the complex was built between 823 and 840 AD. The smaller two were built around 100 years later. Over the past 1,000 years the three pagodas have survived various natural disasters, including severe earthquakes. The most recent of the earthquakes, in 1925, destroyed most buildings in Dali, but the three pagodas emerged intact. |
