15. The Great Buddha of Kamakura (Kamakura Daibutsu)
| The statue was cast in 1252 and was originally housed inside a large wooden hall. However, the building was destroyed a number of times by typhoons and tsunamis in the 14th and 15th centuries. Since1495, the Daibutsu has been standing in the open air, unprotected from the elements. |
